Digital or In-Person Dating โ
What's Your Approach?
We asked 467 Maple BDSM members how they prefer to initiate a BDSM connection โ purely online, in person from the start, or somewhere in between. The results reveal a community that values real-world connection but recognises the practical power of meeting digitally first.

๐ฌ What This Tells Us
The most striking finding is that nearly 3 in 10 members prefer in-person connection from the very start โ the single most popular response by a clear margin. In a BDSM context, this makes intuitive sense: trust, chemistry, and reading body language are foundational to a power exchange dynamic, and no amount of messaging can fully substitute for that first in-person read of someone.
That said, 57% of respondents include some form of digital screening in their process โ either a full digital-first approach (17%), a rapid online-to-offline pipeline (18%), or a flexible mix of both (23%). The community isn't anti-digital; it's pragmatic about using it as a tool, not a destination.
The 13% who are "sceptical but trying" likely represent newer members or those who've had poor experiences on mainstream apps. For them, Maple BDSM may offer something different: a space where the digital conversations actually lead somewhere, because everyone starts from the same baseline.
